Everyone knows Howard Hughes! The movie has made him famous, BUT (the wrath of the BUT!); behind the glamour and and glitz and the popularity was the truth!
This is simply why you must never meet your heroes! There is always a high chance of disappointment! Or you can meet them and understand the truth which you seek anyway!
Even the best teachers or surgeons you meet at conferences have the perfect allure or an AURA! Then you meet them in their raw or free state, you would realise the human behind the mask! Whether you like that final PERSON behind the facade is of course up to you!
The issue here is the ILLUSION! Or as Robert calls it, ‘The Illusion of the MaverickPublic Image’
Robert Greene uses Howard Hughes in his book The Laws of Human Nature as a prime example of why you must judge people by their actions and behavioral patterns rather than their public image!
The world viewed Howard Hughes as a glamorous, brilliant aviator and a successful Hollywood mogul.
Then there was the Lure! People were easily drawn to his bold, larger-than-life persona and self-proclaimed success.
Greene argues that looking only at a person’s words or appearance blinds you to who they truly are!
Behind the shiny facade, Greene describes Hughes as having a fragile and toxic character with poor Business Sense!
In fact despite his fame, Hughes was actually a terrible businessman who created chaos and lost control of his ventures!
Hughes’s compulsive behavior and intense need for control stemmed from an anxious childhood where his mother projected her fears onto him. Once his parents died, his true, rigid, and destructive patterns fully emerged!
Now this is not to belittle Howard; but he is just an example of all the layers of make up which hides the real face!
Greene says that people never do something just once so we must look at recurring habits and past actions instead of believing a charming presentation!
We must Ignore the Hype and stop listening to what powerful or famous people say about themselves. Their true nature always shows up in their actual behavior over time!
At the end of it all, apart from maybe BATMAN; all of us are mere mortals! Why Batman is the exception you ask? Well, as the Joker says, “There is nothing mere about that mortal!”
So who is that famous shining knight you are impressed with so much!? If you can handle the truth, do meet him or her!
Then again I would not mind meeting Kumaravadivel Natarajan! Even looking at him makes me laugh!
You may know him as Vadivelu!
Shub ratri…
