It has always be told that the most precious things are supported by the most strongest things!
You have the strongest vaults in the world for the greatest treasures and you have the most precious thing in the world for you being supported by a very strong bone!
I am of course talking about your brain!
Now did you know that one of the strongest bones in the body actually supports or protects one of the most important organs in the body?
Of course I am biased towards this organ since it is my speciality!
The EAR!
Did you know that one of the strongest bones is the petrous bone and it protects the cochlea!
In fact the petrous part of the temporal bone is widely recognized as the densest and hardest bone in the human body, specifically designed to protect delicate inner ear structures. Located at the skull base, its extreme, stone-like strength acts as a protective shell for hearing and balance organs!
The cochlea is a fluid-filled, snail-shaped cavity in the inner ear’s temporal bone essential for hearing!
Now listening to the sounds is our routine for some days now and then you have the fact that today is the world hearing day!
The initiative began in 2007 as “International Ear Care Day” following the first International Conference on Prevention and Rehabilitation of Hearing Impairment in Beijing, China.
It was officially renamed World Hearing Day in 2016 to broaden its scope and global impact.
But do you know why this day was chosen?
March 3 (3/3) was chosen because the numbers 3.3 visually resemble the shape of two human ears!
Then again I have heard other specialists telling that it resembles a kidney! Of course we have to see and HEAR what we want to!
As an otologists all I can tell you is that we have two ears so that we can hear or listen more and talk less or sensibly for that matter!
Another challenging day hoping for peace and happiness…
And amazing people like Jamsetji Tata!
Subh ratri…
