No is the way to go!

“He was looking at his greatest inspiration

The pile of letters on his desk he saw everyday!

He was at the top of his game ’cause of them!

The one’s who told him to stop! The one’s who said; nay!”

This very famous book by Robin Sharma called the 5 Am club starts with the story of another famous author/KING! as the part of a play!

Now this author wrote a script or a rough draft of his idea and made it into a teen novel and immediately after finishing it threw it in the dust bin! The oversized paper and size of the novel made the bin full!

Read on the story of a king!

You guessed it! Stephen King!

So his wife took out the papers and started leafing through it since she had nothing much to do in their routine mundane life! She urged her husband to finish the story! He reluctantly took it back from the thrash and finished it in a hurry! Only to be thrown back in the bin this time figuratively by publishers!

In fact Stephen King was the first to reject his own story ‘Carrie’. After writing a frustrating first draft and feeling that he was wasting his time creating a book that wouldn’t sell which is why he threw it out!

He went on to finish and submit it to a publisher who passed it over with the comment ‘We are not interested in science fiction which deals with negative utopias’. The figurative thrash!

The manuscript was rejected 30 times before being picked up by Doubleday. It went on to sell over a million copies and become a successful film!

Since then King has published over 54 novels, 200 short stories and won numerous awards for his contributions to literature and he is probably one of the most prolific writers ever! Most of his books have been great successful movies and my most favourite movie The Shawshank redemption was also based on a novella co authored by him! No wonder ever computer has a recycle bin from which you can recover maybe your future! Think about it!

He has written under three pen names – Richard Bachman, Beryl Evans, and John Swithen. He has collaborated with many authors and artists including Peter Straub and Michael Jackson! Even now the King tries to write a minimum of 2,000 words a day using a paper and a Waterman fountain pen! Yes, reading that I also took out my fountain pen! I love writing with them! Such a wide talent reminds me of birthday celebrity Sachin Khedekar! He just gels into the character and how!

Now close the door and pen and sleep!

Shubh Ratri!

PS- Do not read any of King’s novels in the night if you want a good night sleep!
