The mists of Brahma by C Doyle
Book review
Rating 4/5
Complete puranic fiction
No spoilers
Part 2 of a series of minimum three or may be more
Do not read without reading the first one called the Pathala Prophecy since then you will be lost!
Also do not read if you are planning to finish the series since the wait is for one or more year for the next book!
In some sense though there is a partial closure of sorts so you will not be disappointed!
The review has spoilers from the first one so if you have not read that then please Stop reading this review!
So the book continues where it left in the first. Maya gets most of the role and she is the chief protagonist in this book for now. Arjun literally takes a back seat which can be the way forward or it could be that he will be more prominent in the next novel.
C Doyle’s quests series like the Mahabharata and Alexander quest were notorious for giving incomi endings and I sincerely hope that this is not the way this series will go!
There is a liberal dose of mantra and puranic lore which may not be digestible for the high and mighty reader who frowns upon a sanskrit mantra but gobbles down a Potter spell with hypocritic ease!
The treatment is similar to Ashwin Sanghi and Amish Tripathi but the product is much different than either of them!
The villian Shukra has been shown to be ruthless and powerful and that’s one way to get interest in the story!
Chronologically the story moves in a very effective and even pace and I must say that it is pretty impressive!
The author is also a reader of Subha Villas whose Ramayana series is even my favourite and must read!
All in all with simple grammar and storyline the narration is fast paced and full of thrill and action with a generous dose of emotion!
Readers of Indian authors can grab this one without much thought while others can try it just for some Indian spice!
It May not win any literary awards but will definitely entertain you only if you let it!
Let the mists clear!
