The never game by Jeffery Deaver

JEFFERY DEAVER- THE NEVER GAME

BOOK REVIEW

SPOILERS-none; but it is no big secret that this is first of a series and so there will be some things left incomplete!

RATING 3.5/5

Jeff (deaver and certainly not Archer!) is one of my favourite authors after I was left spell bound reading a novel by him called the Blue Nowhere (Ironically I had bought that book mistaking it to be written by Jeffery Archer!).

That and the Bone collector and his short stories and I have been ardently following him and reading all that he has written!

This book is a departure from his very popular series which had the Quadriplegic Lincoln Rhyme who in spite of being able to only move his fingers; had enthralled us with his razor sharp mind and kept us on our toes! Here the lead investigator is not even a police, or a detective but a very generous version of a Bounty Hunter!

The book goes back and forth between times and tends to get confusing since in typical Deaver style the story is not linear! Then you have so many past stories giving emphasis on the origin which was missing in Lincoln series! In fact this is like the Bizarro Lincoln series! The lead here is physically perfect but mentally is not as sharp! Also Rhyme had the support of the cops most of the time while here it many times gets heated!

The root of the book should have been the latest craze to hit this planet after mobile! The gaming zone! So in typical deaver style you have loads of Gaming trivia and details including how Games can do data mining (the new gold!) and how they can spread misinformation through ad free games (as if whatsapp and FB were not enough!).

The gamer in me was very entertained in these pages and then it dulled to the chase and catch and then it picked up with the twists!

Of course the book starts with an end scene! But just when you thought it will end there you have 30 odd pages to go with many twists and half stories which will be dealt in the next book poerhaps!

His own aknowledgements in the end ends with Deaver mentioning to read about games in his own book! But the way he mentions is very funny!

Regular Deavers will lick it up and still miss Rhyme while others can start this without any expectations and you will be pleased!
